Moving into a new rental home or leaving one behind creates plenty of responsibilities you'll need to address. Our team has compiled these checklists to help guide you during your move and ensure no stone is left unturned.

Move-in Checklist

Moving into a DAHS rental property? Use the checklist below to make sure your move is a success.

First Month's Rent & Security Deposit

Both your first month's rent and your security deposit are due at the lease signing. Please confirm the final amounts with a member of our team.

Move-in Date & Inspection

Your move-in date and key exchange will be scheduled at the time of the lease signing. If an inspection with a team member is necessary, we will also discuss that at this time.


You are responsible for placing the utility accounts for your rental home in your name and keeping the accounts current. Please call your utility providers a few days before moving into the home, which will prevent unnecessary outages and additional administrative fees.

Move-out Checklist

Heading out of your DAHS property? To recover your security deposit, please read the following list carefully.

Notice of Intent to Vacate

Your lease governs the length of your stay in your home. If you choose to move, you'll need to let us know by providing written notice of your intent to vacate. Please refer to your lease for additional terms governing this process.

Property Condition

Please be sure to return your home to "rent ready" condition at the end of your stay. In other words, you need to leave the property as you found it. Take care of the following issues:

  • Rental Cleaning: You'll need to clean your rental thoroughly, sweeping or vacuuming the floors, washing countertops, and removing trash from the premises. Please pay special attention to your kitchen and bathroom areas. Wipe down appliances and sanitize food preparation surfaces.
  • Landscaping & Outdoor Areas: If your property has outdoor areas, you'll need to take care of any landscaping chores, such as mowing the lawn and weeding the flowerbeds.
  • Repairs: Be sure to take the necessary steps to repair any damage that occurred during your stay in your rental property. Patch nail and screw holes and replace burnt lightbulbs. Any significant damage should be discussed with a DAHS staff member.

Security Deposit

Your security deposit will be returned as quickly as possible. We will conduct a thorough walk-through of your home and note any repairs that need to be addressed. The expense for these repairs will be deducted from your security deposit.

Please remember, your security deposit cannot serve as your final month's rent payment. If you fail to pay your rent in full, we will recover the funds using whatever legal means necessary.
