Is your toilet blocked?
If your toilet has clogged, you'll need to attempt to flush the blockage from the system. First, flush the toilet once. Then, use a plunger to create suction and attempt to push the clog out. Do not flush multiple times or you may flood your bathroom. Continue until the toilet unclogs.
The flush handle isn't working.
If nothing happens when you flush the toilet, remove the tank cover and make sure the flapper's chain is connected to the handle mechanism. This chain sometimes comes loose.
My outlets won't work:
First, make sure the outlet is the problem and not your appliance. Try to plug the equipment into another outlet to see if the problem resolves. If you are using a GCFI outlet, you may need to reset it.
Push the test button, which should cause the top button to pop out of place. Push this button back into place to reset the circuit.
I don't have power anywhere in the property:
Power outages may be due to inclement weather or a tripped breaker. If you're not experiencing bad weather, check your breaker box and reset it to see if the power comes back on.
If that doesn't work, determine if you're the only home impacted in your neighborhood. If others have lost power, too, there may be a downed line or construction impacting your property.
Finally, call the utility company if you're unable to determine the cause of the issue.
Check your hot water heating settings to see if the thermostat has been accidentally reset. Some tanks also have a vacation mode, which temporarily turns the heater off. Verify that your tank is not in this mode and reset if necessary.
If your water heater has a pilot light, verify that the light is lit. Most modern water heaters have a small button you can press to relight the pilot if necessary.
First, verify that you have power in your property and the breaker wasn't accidentally tripped. Next, check your HVAC thermostat to ensure that the settings are correct.
Finally, call your utility company to ensure there are no problems with your account.
In the event of a life threatening emergency, call 911 for immediate assistance.
Still having trouble? Review the following list of common issues:
- My lights aren't working: check the lightbulb and reset the breaker
- Beeping smoke detector: your batteries need to be replaced.
- Sink or dishwasher not draining: the pipes under your sink may be blocked. Attempt to use a plunger to clear the block.
- Refrigerator is not working: check your temperature controls and make sure the grills and vents are not blocked.
